One increasingly large problem in our society today seems to be the controversy of gay marriage rights. To me, this shouldn’t even be a problem in our society, but sadly it is. Gays, lesbians and transgender couples are judged all of the time by people who may or may not even know them. I personally have many gay (guy and girl) friends who I love to death! I’ve always been taught that God created everyone equally and everyone should receive equal treatment. So why is it that straight couples are allowed the happiness and ability to marry one another, but gay couples are not? To me this issue is very embarrassing. Welcome to American where we don’t let people get married (or make them travel to a different state in order for it to happen) because they like someone of the same sex. In my opinion, someone should not be shunned or be prohibited from being with someone just because they happen to be of the same sex. Who cares? The thing that just grinds my gears is why would someone else care who someone is dating? So what if a guy likes a guy and a girl likes a girl. We live in the 21st century people, do you really think things are going to stay traditional like they were in the early 1900’s forever? Well, if you said yes, sorry to burst your bubble but you’re incorrect. And it’s absolutely sickening that other people in this country (who are completely unaffected by a gay couple’s relationship I might add), can be so ignorant about gay relationships and someone else’s happiness. I don’t even have words to describe how much it aggravates me when someone makes a gay joke or says anything rude about gay couples in general. One of my really good girl friends that I’ve known for five years is gay and is happy as can be! She is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and does she judge a couple just because they’re straight? No. So why are Americans so judgmental of gay couples? I think that in order to stop this hate and ignorance toward gay couples, that gay marriage needs to be legalized nationwide, not just a few states here and there. I think that if gay marriage is legalized in every state, that maybe it might become more acceptable to society and people wouldn’t look at gay couples as being “different” because they’re not. They’re just two people who found love within the same sex.
